GCC Best Practices

• Compile C/C++ with all warnings enabled (gcc -Wall)
• When warnings are enabled, alse enable optimization (gcc -O)
• Treat warnings as errors (gcc -Werror)
• Compile a debug version of C++ code defining -D_GLIBCXX_DEBUG -D_GLIBCXX_DEBUG_PEDANTIC
• Annotate printf-like functions. Example:
  extern void argp_error (__const struct argp_state *__restrict __state,
                          __const char *__restrict __fmt, ...)
       __attribute__ ((__format__ (__printf__, 2, 3)));
  
  (Other formats include scanf, wprintf, wscanf).
