There are already a number of such languages available.  Most of the
languages are declarative, though some imperative languages also
exist.  Try one of troff, TeX, LaTeX, FrameMaker, Word, and
WordPerfect.  All of them compile into PostScript and their syntax is a
lot more simpler than that of PostScript.  Some of them offer modules,
syntax checkers, specialised editors, even complete development
environments.
