Purpose Of The Program Of Study

The Department's program of study has been designed to prepare high-caliber professionals for enterprises and organizations, who will be capable of efficiently dealing with the complexity of current and future technological, economic and social challenges. Therefore, the emphasis of the study program falls on the multi-disciplinary integration of technological, economic and managerial scientific areas. More specifically, the purpose of the program is the education of executives with basic knowledge of management science, supplemented with knowledge and skills in the management and use of information technologies, as well as the necessary organizational, strategic and leadership skills. With this mix of knowledge and skills, they will be able to efficiently take operational decisions and implement strategies, a task that, by its very nature, requires a multi-disciplinary approach.

The differentiation and originality of this Department's program of study consists in the integration of modern quantitative and technological infrastructure with the highly developed managerial knowledge and skills offered to students. This allows Department graduates to be particularly competitive in the job market, since they will have the ability to efficiently handle multifaceted managerial and business issues in the rapidly changing, strongly competitive and technologically developed environment.

Undergraduate students can follow one of the following specializations (by choosing appropriate courses in the 6th and 7th Semester):

  • Management Science
  • Information Systems and E-Business
  • Strategy and Human Resources
  • Supply Chain and Sales
  • Quantitative Methods in Economics and Management

The program is based on the most modern educational and learning methods, such as the pervasive use of computers and Internet (a complete e-learning infrastructure) simulations games, groupwork, case studies, role-playing, etc. An innovation of the program is the 8th Semester "Internship Project" where students spend 4 days/week in a company in a real-life project. Some of the companies participating in the "Internship Project" include: Microsoft, Oracle, Krafts, SAP, Alico, Pepsi, Schneider Electric, KPMG, National Bank of Greece, Intracom, Piraeus Bank, OECD etc.

Courses are integrated, where appropriate, with hands-on laboratory assignments carried out in the two dedicated laboratories of the department (60 seats of total capacity). The Educational Computing Laboratories for the department's students support the latest products in business technology and enterprise applications and offer Information Technology support to over 30 courses.

Furthermore, in the framework of the European Program of Inter-University Exchanges, Socrates - Erasmus, students have the opportunity to study in corresponding Departments of other European Universities. For the 2003-4 academic year 10 students are studying in European Universities including: The Norwegian School of Economics and Business, Universite Catholique de Louvain, University of Umea and others.

Every year more than 20 graduates follow post-graduate studies in leading Universities in Greece and abroad including: MIT, LSE, University of Cambridge, Oxford University, UMIST etc.
